BOREHOLE
LOCATION
Malawi, Mozambique and Afghanistan
BACKGROUND
Clean water is vital for a healthy population. In Malawi about 4 million people continue to lack access to safe drinking water.
Mozambique is suffering from a severe water crisis with approximately half of its people being deprived of access to clean, safe water.
A BOREHOLE PROJECT WITH AMA
Afghan children walk up steep mountains on a daily basis, carrying water that is often dirty, to their homes. Women and children in Mozambique walk under the burning sun for hours to find water. Providing a borehole gives communities clean, safe drinking water, a chance to grow crops, time for a child to study and be a child, and protection against disease.
A manual hand pump that brings the water to the surface
Depth of borehole – 20m to 30m
Boreholes are constructed in Afghanistan and Mozambique.
